this city is a symphony Adora was only six years old when her mother decided she no longer wanted to live the suburbia’s housewife life while her lawyer husband was out everyday. The truth was that they never really wanted kids, but Antonia was a happy little accident that brought immense amounts of joy to the family when she was a baby. Eventually, having a newborn lost its appeal and Katherine looked at having a kid as more of a chore than anything. Coupled with a rocky marriage to a man who was rarely around to help, she would eventually come to resent the members of the Carter Family.
When Adora was six, her mother finally packed up and left. She was being babysat by her grandparents and when Katherine didn’t show up to pick up her daughter, they began to worry. It wasn’t until they got home to find all her stuff packed up and gone with nothing but two letters behind. One for Michael and one for Toni, which she didn’t read until she was 17. Despite the unsavory feeling it left, Adora still read and responded to all of the letters and phone calls she got from her mom. Every holiday and birthday, she found a card with her name on it waiting for her. There was never any money or promise of them seeing each other again, just lots of empty words that left Toni feeling even more empty. Her father eventually stopped giving her the cards because he saw what it did to his daughter. Even though they weren’t the closest, he was still working his hardest to make sure she had everything she could possibly need or want. Which was why she would eventually have her grandmothers around full time after her father purchased a place large enough for them to all live in. It made for raising a teenage girl in New York City a bit easier if she had people around she could trust, rather than just a distant workaholic father who never made it to any of her sporting events, recitals, or shows. This did help patch any tears in their relationship and as time went on, she was able to focus less on what she had presently and not the empty lies she was promised by the woman who left her. With the family coming together after a handful of rocky years, Adora was forced to focus on her academics more and her extracurriculars less. This broke her heart because she was always very creatively driven, the one trait she gained from her mother. However, her father just wanted what was best for his only daughter and didn’t want her to see her grow up chasing after unrealistic dreams. Which would inevitably be exactly what she went on to do after all. Eventually, Adora realized that following her fathers well-intended dreams would not get her to where she wanted to be in life. He made sure she graduated top of her class in order to get her into whatever Ivy League school would take her, but in the end adora sat down with him and explained that she just wasn’t ready to take on that responsibility. He allowed her to take a couple of years off to figure out who she was. He was strict, but he wasn’t unrealistic. If she still felt the same after she had some new experiences under her belt, he told her he would allow her to pursue whatever it was she wanted to do as long as it promised to be a lucrative choice. Fast forward to the year she spent in Los Angeles with her mother, chasing their dreams together. Adora had found her mothers contact information hidden away from her in her dads office and took a chance at reaching out to her. They had reconnected on the west coast and Katherine promised the bright-eyed adora the world when she got there. And things were good for a while. They did movie auditions together, adora was able to write music and sing and they were a sort of package deal for a bit. Eventually Katherine introduced adora to someone who had offered her a job as a showgirl in Vegas, which she took without any hesitation, and that was where it all began to fall apart. Living in Vegas was tough. Sure, she was living in the hotel she performed at, but there was so much influence around her that she never knew which way to go. So she found herself in some precarious situations now and again. None of these would prove to be detrimental until she managed to get conned out of her money by her own mother, rendering her broke and alone in Vegas. The truth was, she never wanted to leave Vegas, but feeling dejected and defeated, she packed her things and said goodbye, heading back to LA to settle into a life of auditions and failed jobs. Somehow, adora found her way into San Francisco, living with friend after friend until she settled into one place long enough to get a job and plant a couple of roots. Alison Blaire was born to Carter and Katherine Blaire in the Long Island suburb of Gardendale, New York. Alison's parents had a tense relationship, because her father was a stoic law student, while her mother was a free-spirited entertainer. Ultimately, this led to Katherine walking out on Carter while Alison was still a toddler, leaving Carter to raise Alison with the help of his mother, Bella Blaire. Katherine's leaving had a profound effect on Carter, who had kept the shameful secret of Katherine from Alison most of her life. As Alison entered adolescence and developed dreams of becoming a singer, her father, now a judge, became increasingly intolerant of the idea. Instead, Carter forced Alison to choose a life path similar to his own; Alison would become an academic star and continue on a path to law school. Alison's grandmother was more sympathetic to young Alison and encouraged her to explore her creative energies.
However, Alison manifested her mutant abilities while performing at a junior high school dance, blinding all in attendance save herself. For years, Alison kept her powers a secret from those closest to her, further alienating herself from her father. By the time she reached university, Alison began to explore both her powers and her musical ability. Alison crafted her own performing suit, accessories, and named herself "The Dazzler". It was at this moment that Alison decided to abandon her father's dream. While at her graduation ceremony, Alison informed Carter that she would not be attending the law school he had selected for her and instead would pursue a life as a singer, without her father's blessing or financial support.
Dazzler used her light-based mutant powers as a draw for her performances. Taking the sound of the music and converting it into dazzling displays of color drew the young singer enough attention to land her gigs at several New York clubs and discotheques. However, Alison knew that she would have to keep the nature of her powers a secret. Marketing her light shows as a "technological secret", Alison was able to bypass critical speculation for some time. Yet, while this little white lie fooled the club managers and others in her life, it did not escape the notice of Emma Frost, White Queen of the Hellfire Club, or Professor Charles Xavier, founder and mentor of the X-Men. sound release echolocation blinding flash Lasers Photon Blasts Illumination strobes dazzle Holograms Rocket Burst Destructive Shield Light Mist Omnidirectional Ultraviolet Light Light Immunity sound Immunity Immunity to the Powers of Mortis Superhuman Hearing resurrection last name is alison's fathers first name. same mother's name. partially raised by grandmother. mother was an entertainer that left. adora is also an entertainer.
